How we review software
We keep three things separate: product facts, editorial judgment and paid placement.
Last updated 8 October 2026
Facts come from vendor sources
Every factual statement about a product (its views, features, apps and plan structure) comes from the vendor's own public pages: feature pages, pricing pages, help centers and download pages. Each review lists the pages it used and the date they were checked. Advice on who a tool suits and how to set it up is our editorial judgment and is written as advice.
If we cannot confirm something on a current vendor page, we leave it out. We do not repeat customer lists, user counts or integration counts unless the vendor publishes them.
What we do not do
We do not run hands-on benchmarks, and we do not publish star ratings, numeric scores or testimonials. A capability being available does not mean it is included in every plan, so reviews say which features need a paid plan and link to current pricing.
How the assessment suggests tools
The assessment asks six questions: team size, main type of work, preferred views, needed capabilities, budget approach and why you are looking. Each tool gets one point for every view and capability you asked for that its vendor confirms. Your main type of work can add one more point to tools built for it: Jira for agile development, Todoist and Trello for everyday tasks. Tools with more points appear higher among the alternatives. If two tools have the same points, they are listed alphabetically.
A capability we could not confirm is shown as something to check, not as proof the tool lacks it, and it does not lower the tool's position. A free-plan budget adds a reminder to check what the free plan covers. Team size is shown in your answer summary and does not change the order; check seat limits on the vendor's pricing page.
ClickUp is shown as the featured result regardless of these rules, because it is our paid partner. The alternatives below it follow the matching rules above.
Dates
Each review and guide shows when it was published and last updated, and each source shows when it was checked. Comparison summaries show the date of the last catalog check.
